Things to know when Booking a Cruise

cruise booking tips

There are so things to think about when booking a cruise, but the main one is how to get the best value possible from your holiday. There are a few things I always do when booking a cruise so I wanted to share them. Hopefully, they might be useful when booking your next trip.

Firstly, think about when you want to travel. If you can try and book a cruise out of season. Fewer people want to travel at these times so you can get some real bargains. If you are able to be more flexible with when you travel then you can save a lot of money, sometimes cruises can go up by hundreds of pounds during the summer months.

Do your research. Look for the cruise you want, but leave your options open if you can. If you can find 2 or 3 cruises within a few weeks of each other that you would be happy to travel on, this can really help. Keep going on the cruise companies website and checking the price for a week or 2 before you book, or even a couple of months. The price is likely to go up and down. When the price gets to a place that you are happy with and falls within your budget then book it.

If you are brave enough, wait until the last minute. If there are still cabins left a couple of weeks before the ship sails then the prices tend to go down, because cruise companies don’t want to sail with empty rooms. I have done this a few times and it’s always worked out really well.

Whether you check the price and then book, or you wait until the last minute, don’t just take the first price you see. Whatever price the cruise line gives you, in my experience, you can normally beat that. Contact a cruise agent or website once you have found your ideal price. I alway use They always manage to get me a lower price than the one on the cruise lines website. You get everything you would if you book direct, but it’s cheaper!

If you are booking a fly cruise then try to and go for a cruise line that includes the flight in the price of your cruise. Take the flights they offer you rather than try to book them yourself. In my experience, it’s really difficult to get them cheaper than the ones the cruise line includes. If the flights aren’t included then you need to find some that are as reasonable as possible. When booking flights it’s always a good idea to use a price comparison site. This will guarantee that you find the best price. I always use Skyscanner when booking my flights.
