It’s just over a year now since I started my blog and as it approaches its first anniversary I thought it was about time to explain a bit of why I decided to start do you cruise?
I love travelling, which ever way I can. Whether it is on holiday or for work I try to get away as often as I can. It’s something that I am really passionate about and the one type of travelling that I love more than any other is cruising. It offers such a different view of the world to any other and enables you to see the world in a different way to any other type of travelling.
I went on my first cruise about 15 years ago and to say I was dubious was an understatement. I really wasn’t sure that I would like it at all. I thought I would feel claustrophobic. I thought I would feel as though I was trapped on the ship with nowhere to go. I was absolutely convinced I would feel seasick. Luckily I didn’t feel any of these things. The cabin was lovely and spacious with a constant view of the sea (I also love an inside cabin too though). The ship, even though not huge, felt spacious with plenty of places to explore. And I didn’t feel sick once, even when sailing through the Bay of Biscay.
I wanted to share my love of cruising and travel with like minded people. I didn’t think that there would be that many people who were young and loved cruising as much as I did. But mostly through twitter, I have found that there are quite a few young people who blog about cruising. It really is a lovely community of people some of whom I have been able to actually meet in real life when we were invited on bloggers ship visit and I am hoping to meet more when we attend Blog Camp on Board in October.
I love being able to write about what I love. I find it interesting learning things that I didn’t know before when I am researching and it makes it feel a lot less like work. If you are able to write about something that you are passionate about and you enjoy learning about it, it makes it so much easier to do. really can blog about anything. Since starting my blog I’ve realised that you really can blog about anything. The chances are if you are interested in something and you want to write about it then there will be people out there that want to read it. My blog is a pretty niche subject but despite that, there are still people out there that find it and read it.
I was totally clueless when I started my do you cruise? I had no idea how to start a blog or set up a website. I didn’t really want to spend money on website and people to help me set it so I taught myself how to do it. I paid for my domain name but apart from that, I created my own site from scratch. For me, this seemed like a better option at the time. When I was about 6 months in and thought that my website looked a bit amateurish I was able to give it an overhaul and complete redesign because by then I knew how to. Something that 18 months ago I never dreamed I would have a clue how to do.
There are so many brilliant free resources out there that will take you through step by step how to create your site. Where to put menus, how to set up your blog and generally how to start a blog. From really simple to more complex site. So don’t be put off because even if you really only understand the basics, you will be able to start a blog.
I used Blue Host. Which was just brilliant and so simple to use and understand especially if you are new to this like me.
The best thing I can say though is whether you want to write just to write or you want to change your career through your blog. Do it! You have nothing to lose and it really is so much fun. You can learn something new and find whole communities of people through the internet who have similar interests to you.
